Kenni is one of my absolute favorites anywhere.

In Eric's words, Kenni's music is both "funky" & "fresh".

I completely agree.  

Her voice is really very distinctive.

The structures of her songs are very avant garde.

The real treat when you go see her is her amazing voice.  

I, for one, am mesmerized by her breathy, warbly voice.

ABOUT DYLAN GILBERT

Raised in a musical family, Dylan Gilbert grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina writing and performing original music at an early age. His influences include indie pop, folk, jazz, British rock and experimental music (among others). He has released 2 full length albums, an EP, numerous digital albums and performed over 300 shows since late 2005 from Georgia to New York. His live shows vary from lively solo shows (accompanied by pedal effects and various noise makers) to full band performances. Dylan is a unique songwriter, musician and singer with a style that's original and all his own. Dylan's fourth album "Pangaea" was released in June 2010 followed by an East Coast Tour!

Milkjug Monday: Skeleton Kednig

ABOUT SKELETON KEDNIG

Skeleton Kednig is a new project from former Orsons co-songwriter Chris Steude. Steude has also been a member of several Charlotte area bands in addition to the Orsons, such as Sandcrawler, the Vel-Crows and Attila's Honey, as well as a solo artist since 2006. 

After a year of recording, Steude released his new CD "Immolation" in January 2010 with a full band behind him. Featured on the CD are members of the bands Elonzo and Sandcrawler, as well as producer and New York anti-folk musician Grey Revell, Producer of Paleface's "The Show is on the Road" 

"Immolation" is Skeleton Kednig's second release, after the limited release of "the Solitude Session" in April of 2009.

Milkjug Monday: Elonzo

Who They Are & What They Do

Elonzo is an independent Americana/Folk Rock band based out of Rock Hill, South Carolina. In the heart of the Carolina Piedmont, they write songs about everyday life: sitting around on the front porch, watching the train go by, loss of loved ones, childhood, their hometown and their dreams. Elonzo’s music represents some of the most classic elements of the Southeastern United States: earnestness, good story-telling, and an awareness of tragedy that never seems too far around the corner.

Elonzo began as a “family gathering” trio comprised of singer/songwriter Jeremy Davis (Vocals/Guitar), sister Maggie Bourdeau (Vocals/Keys), brother-in-law Dan Bourdeau (Drums/Percussion), expanding to include Dennis Contreras (Bass) .

Elonzo’s debut, “All My Life”, went through multiple iterations before being sent to print in October 2008. The beginnings of “All My Life”, and Elonzo for that matter, began when Jeremy would drive down from Atlanta to write, record, and make grand plans with Dan. These sessions and songs were lost to hard drive failures and time. It wasn’t until after Maggie and Dan were married, that Jeremy decided to move down to Rock Hill and Elonzo was truly born. Jeremy, Maggie, and Dan all moved together to the East Town Neighborhood of Rock Hill, where they reside on E. White St.

The final version of “All My Life” was recorded and mostly conceived at their home on E White St. This post-Victorian, turn of the century home, approximately 60 feet from a train track, became a perfect jumping off point for Jeremy’s writing, see: “Train Song”, “Super South”, and “612 E. White St. Elonzo recently (December 2009) release a follow up EP ( Extended Play), and is touring to support both records in 2010.

For Elonzo, living in a town, a house, and a neighborhood that are all archetypal in their southernness, and at the same time a bit forgotten and dilapidated, has been and is a beautiful and inspirational experience.

Milkjug Monday: Case Federal & The Agents

WHAT THEY DO

Case Federal & The Agents is a Charlotte based Avant-Jazz quintet. 

Their music ranges anywhere from Folk to Jazz to Indie to Jam 

and all in between, 

with songs about loss of love, the changing seasons, self-discovery, 

insomniac adventures, fictional love stories, meditation, 

introspective decision making, the chaos theory, etc... 

Our shows are high energy progressive/jazz/jam performances, 

with a wide variety of songs featuring guitars, bass, keyboards, alto & tenor sax, and drums; 

all based behind an eclectic operatically trained voice to bring the stories to life.

My favorite Case Federal song!!! "Vodka with Lime"

Case Federal ( that's his REAL NAME-cool right?!) is a favorite.
He's one of my boyfriend's best friends & coworkers.
He & The Agents make music that is FUNKY FRESH!
I personally think it's impossible to listen to Case & the Agents & be sad.
Their music makes me super happy!

Milkjug Monday: Intro to Milkjug Productions

Milkjug Productions started in 2005 when a couple of local musicians

were hanging out one dark and stormy night in Huntersville, NC... 

The weather prevented them from going outside, and drove them into the 

space in the garage where a plethora of instruments where discovered. 

The musicians proceeded to bring out the instruments one by one and as the 

night grew darker, and the musician grew more inebriated, they got to playing 

some songs and telling stories... One story came up about a guy and his love 

for a milkjug (trust me, it's too long of a story to tell now) but henceforth, 

the name Milkjug Productions was adapted. 

It all started just like this.  

Well, in the garage...

This was at The Sweet Pea in Concord, NC.

I took this picture around 3 years ago.

We all got together almost every night back then,

playing music, eating chicken wings & "zacaroni", 

drinking & building a community.

What a strange trip it's been.
